Casualties continue to pile up as Israeli strikes on Gaza enter 125th day

Jerusalem, Feb 8 (EFE).- Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip entered its 125th day on Thursday, while the number of war casualties continued to pile up, especially in Gaza City in the north and Khan Yunis and Rafah in the south.

Israeli forces said around 40 militants were killed and dozens arrested in its strikes that stretched throughout the besieged enclave.Of those arrested, at least two of them were part of the Oct. 7 attack, the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) said Thursday.

In northern Gaza, a militant cell “that was trying to transfer technological systems to Hamas” was found and destroyed, the IDF said.

Local Palestinian media reported that Israeli warplanes intensely bombarded several parts of Gaza, killing “dozens of citizens.”At least 14 bodies were recovered in Rafah, including of five children, after two houses were hit by Israeli strikes, the state-run Wafa news agency reported Thursday.”

Journalist Nafez Abdel Jawad, who worked for Palestine TV, and his son were martyred in an Israeli missile strike that targeted a house in the city of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip,” the agency said.

Two others were killed by an Israeli sniper in Khan Yunis, Wafa said.Over 27,700 Palestinians have lost their lives, and over 67,000 are injured in Israeli strikes that have turned vast swaths of Gaza into rubble since the war broke out.

The Israeli offensive began in retaliation to Hamas’ attack on the country on Oct. 7, where the group killed over 1,200 and took over 250 hostages. EFE
