Washington, Jul 26 (EFE).- Former US president Barack Obama and his wife Michelle have endorsed current vice president Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s candidate to run against Republican Donald Trump in November’s presidential election.
The Obamas are the latest high-profile Democrats – including president Joe Biden and former House speaker Nancy Pelosi – to give their backing to Harris, who is widely expected to be formally nominated at the party’s convention next month in Chicago.

Biden ended his campaign on Sunday after losing the backing of his party and its donors following a poor performance in a televised debate with Trump in June.
In a video, Harris is shown taking a phone call from the former president and first lady, with Michelle Obama saying, “I can’t have this phone call without saying to my girl Kamala: I am proud of you. This is going to be historic.”
Her husband adds, “We called to say Michelle and I couldn’t be prouder to endorse you and do everything we can to get you through this election and into the Oval Office.”
Harris, a former prosecutor and senator from California, thanked the Obamas for their support.
“I just wanna tell you that the words you have spoken and the friendship that you have given over all these years mean more than I can express. So thank you both!”, the vice president said.
Barack Obama’s official X account also shared the video, accompanied by a statement in which they said “we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States” and that she “has our full support.”
“At this critical moment for our country, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she wins in November. We hope you’ll join us,” Obama said. EFE
