Jerusalem, Aug 10 (EFE).- More than 100 people were killed and dozens wounded Saturday after an Israeli strike on a school in Gaza where displaced Palestinian civilians were taking refuge, Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.
Meanwhile, rescue sources put the number of deaths at over 80 and the enclave’s civil defense agency, run by Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, said there were over 40 casualties.
The Israeli attack occurred during dawn prayers at a school in the Al-Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City, according to local sources.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that the strike was carried out by fighter planes against a facility that was used by terrorists to attack the Israeli military.
It added that many measures had been taken to minimize harm to civilians, including the use of precision weapons and the gathering of intelligence.
This new attack occurred after at least 14 civilians, including two journalists, were killed on Friday in Khan Younis, a city in the south of the Gaza Strip where Israeli ground troops conducted another raid.

Claiming the presence of militants, Israeli ground troops on Friday launched a new assault in Khan Younis, which was partially evacuated a day earlier.
The Israeli forces have said that they have bombed more than 30 targets in the area, including alleged weapons storage facilities and militants.
The international community is putting renewed pressure on Israel and Hamas to agree to a ceasefire, and has urged them to resume negotiations on Aug. 15. EFE
