New wave of explosions in comms devices in Lebanon kills at least 9, injures 300

Beirut, Sep 18 (EFE).- A new wave of explosions on Wednesday involving wireless communication devices in Lebanon has killed at least nine people and injured hundreds of others, the Lebanese public health ministry said.

The state-run National News Agency (ANN) said explosions had been reported in Sahmar, in the eastern Bekaa Valley, as well as in Marjayoun (south), Hosh al Ghanam (east) and Tyre (south).

The wave of explosions in walkie talkies comes just 24 hours after a similar mass attack involving simultaneously exploding pagers belonging to members of the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, which killed at least 12 people – including two children – and injured thousands of others.

Explosions have also been reported in the southern suburbs of Beirut known as the Dahye, a Hezbollah stronghold.

“We are responding with 30 ambulance teams to multiple explosions in different areas, including southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley,” the Lebanese Red Cross said on its X account.

In a brief message, the Lebanese army has also asked the population not to gather where “security incidents” have occurred to allow medical teams to work.

The affected areas are controlled by Hezbollah, as was the case in the series of explosions on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s attack, which also caused civilian casualties, was attributed to Israel by both the Lebanese government and Hezbollah. Israel has not commented on either incident. EFE
