Ukraine says it hit Russia’s largest oil depot in Crimea

Kyiv, Oct 7 (EFE).- The Ukrainian General Staff said on Monday that it had hit the largest oil depot on the Crimean peninsula, occupied by Russia since 2014 and used as a base for many Russian military actions on mainland Ukraine.

“Last night, a successful strike was made on the enemy’s offshore oil terminal in the temporarily occupied Feodosia, Crimea. A fire was detected in the area of the facility,” the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said in a statement, state news agency Ukrinform reported.

The General Staff added that the Feodosia terminal was the largest in Crimea in terms of transshipment of oil products used, in particular, to meet the needs of the Russian army.

“The consequences of the damage are being clarified,” according to the General Staff, which did not specify the type of weapons used in the operation but said that it was carried out by the specialized missile units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in cooperation with other components of the military.

“Measures to undermine the military-economic potential of the Russian Federation are ongoing,” the statement warned.

Ukraine is allowed to use the weapons it receives from its allies to strike targets in the territories that legally belong to it and have been occupied by Russia, such as Crimea.

However, Kyiv has not managed to get its allies to lift the ban on using military equipment such as long-range missiles it receives from the US, the United Kingdom and France against military infrastructure inside Russia.

Russian authorities declared a municipal-level state of emergency on Monday due to the fire at the Feodosia terminal.

“Residents of the Feodosia District! Due to the fire on the territory of the oil terminal in Feodosia, a man-made emergency situation of a municipal nature is being introduced,” Feodosia Mayor Igoo Tkachenko wrote on his Telegram channel. EFE
