Russia used record number of Shahed drones against Ukraine in Oct, says Ukraine

Kyiv, Nov 1 (EFE).- The Russian army sent a record number of Iranian kamikaze Shahed drones and those of other types on Ukrainian territory for the second straight month in October, according to the Ukrainian defense forces on Friday.

“In October this year, Russian forces used 2,023 strike UAVs of the Shahed type and unidentified models against Ukrainian civilian and military sites,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said in a statement on Telegram, according to the state-owned Ukrinform agency.

“Of these, 1,185 were destroyed or neutralized by Ukrainian defenders, 738 were lost from tracking, and 29 UAVs exited Ukrainian-controlled airspace. Since the start of 2024, the enemy has launched a total of 6,987 strike UAVs over Ukrainian territory,” it added.

According to the X handle, @ShahedTracker, which keeps a count of the daily number of Shahed drones launched by Russia – as reported by Ukraine -1,912 of the Iranian made unmanned devices were fired in October.

According to the same handle, in September, Russia broke the previous monthly record for Shaheds used with 1,331 such drones launched against Ukraine.

Russia has started to mass produce Shahed drones on its own territory, which otherwise it previously imported from Iran.

As a result, Russian forces can launch an unprecedented number of drones of this type on a daily basis against Ukraine, along with other drones of other models. EFE
