7th International Solar Alliance assembly kicks off in India

New Delhi, Nov 4 (EFE).- The seventh assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) kicked off in the Indian capital, with the participation of delegates from 120 countries, seeking to promote the use of solar energy to combat the climate crisis.

This year’s annual assembly, held over three days and co-presided by France, was inaugurated at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

India’s New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi, during his inaugural address, underlined that they were at a crucial point in the mission to redesign the energy future, and underlined the great influence that the Sun has had on great civilizations throughout history, including now in India.

Highlighting the importance of this assembly, which is to conclude on Wednesday, Joshi said the solar sector was in full growth and expected to reach two terawatts of capacity worldwide by the end of the year.

In this regard, he stated that investments in solar energy projects increased by 272 percent between 2018 and 2023, and are projected to reach $500 million by 2024.

ISA’s goal is for solar energy investments to reach $1 billion worldwide by 2030.

The ISA annual assembly is the highest decision-making body of this organization, and it discusses initiatives that are currently underway or can be implemented in the future to facilitate countries’ access to solar energy.

In addition, it includes discussions on mobilizing funding to accelerate the implementation of this green energy, or supporting solar entrepreneurs, according to a statement by the Indian government ahead of the meeting.

The creation of ISA dates back to COP 21 held in Paris in 2015 and was launched by India and France, which serve as its presidents. So far, 120 countries have joined the Alliance. EFE
