Zelenskyy tells Trump he hopes for strong US support for peace

Kyiv, Nov 7 (EFE).- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called United States President-elect Donald Trump early Thursday morning to congratulate him on his election victory and say he’s confident that strong American leadership will lead to peace in Ukraine.

“I had an excellent call with President (Trump) and congratulated him on his historic landslide victory – his tremendous campaign made this result possible,” Zelenskyy wrote on his social media account X, adding that he spoke of the great work of Trump’s team and family.

“We agreed to maintain close dialogue and advance our cooperation. Strong and unwavering US leadership is vital for the world and for a just peace,” Zelenskyy wrote.

The Ukrainian president has repeatedly said he needs Washington’s weapons to continue to confront Russian military aggression.

Trump and his entourage have raised the possibility of cutting off supplies to Ukraine and are betting on immediate negotiations to end the war. Kyiv fears this solution to the conflict will force it to give up territory. EFE
