Kyiv, Jan 18 (EFE).– A Russian ballistic missile strike on Kyiv’s Shevchenkivski district killed at least four people and injured three others, Ukrainian officials said on Saturday, marking one of the deadliest attacks on the capital in recent weeks.
“Unfortunately, we already have four dead in the Shevchenkivski district and three injured,” Timur Tkachenko, head of the city’s military administration, wrote on his official Telegram channel.
The assault triggered air raid sirens three times overnight as Russian forces launched a mix of ballistic missiles and drones across Ukraine.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported a fire in a non-residential building in the Shevchenkivski district, where emergency crews were dispatched to extinguish the blaze.
The attack also caused significant damage to infrastructure. A water supply pipe was destroyed, and repair teams are working to restore service.
Broken windows and smoke were reported at the entrance of a residential building, while the Lukianivska metro station sustained damage and was temporarily closed. Trains were passing through without stopping there.

Despite Kyiv’s robust air defense network, Russia’s ballistic missiles struck the city, with some fragments landing in the district. “Unfortunately, people died,” the Ukrainian Air Force noted in its report.
The Air Force said Russia launched 39 Shahed-type drones, several imitation drones, and four Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles.
Ukrainian defense systems successfully intercepted two of the four missiles in Kyiv’s region and downed 24 drones in various areas, including Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Dnipro.

However, 14 imitation drones evaded interception, though they caused no major damage.
In addition to the assault on Kyiv, Russia also struck a facility in Zaporizhia with ballistic missiles. While no fatalities were reported, there were injuries, according to the Air Force. EFE
