LGBT and ‘anti-fascist’ demonstration against Milei in Argentina

Buenos Aires Feb 1 (EFE).- Argentine LGBT collectives organized an “anti-fascist” and “anti-racist” march on Saturday in rejection of President Javier Milei’s “hate speech” at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

More than a hundred collectives and civil organizations gathered at the National Congress in Buenos Aires to march to the iconic Plaza de Mayo, where the Casa Rosada (seat of the government) is located.

The “Federal March of Anti-Fascist and Anti-Racist Pride” was organized in just one week, following the president’s speech in Davos on Jan. 23, in which he attacked the “LGBT agenda,” “nefarious gender ideology,” and “radical feminism,” and linked homosexuality to pedophilia.

There were marches throughout Argentina, including cities such as Cordoba, Rosario, and Mar del Plata, and solidarity protests in Uruguay, Chile, and Brazil.

In Buenos Aires, participants marched with rainbow flags and countless banners with messages against homophobia, transphobia, and fascism, despite the grueling midsummer heat in downtown Buenos Aires, with temperatures exceeding 32 degrees Celsius.

The rallies also protested against the erosion of public health, the closure of memorials and human rights institutions, the lack of funding for soup kitchens and universities, and in defense of pensioners, public education, and the country’s natural resources. EFE
