Washington, Feb 13 (EFE).- A coalition of Democratic attorneys general from 14 US states sued Donald Trump’s administration on Thursday over the role of tech tycoon Elon Musk as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which they say is overstepping The Constitution.
“President Trump has delegated virtually unchecked authority to Mr. Musk without proper legal authorization from Congress and without meaningful supervision of his activities,” the lawsuit argues.
“As a result, he has transformed a minor position that was formerly responsible for managing government websites into a designated agent of chaos without limitation and in violation of the separation of powers,” it adds.
DOGE’s mission is to reduce spending in the federal government. Under that pretext, since Trump returned to power, he has begun the dismantling of the public apparatus, by slashing billions of dollars from the Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Department of Education among others.
On Tuesday Trump signed an executive order to “significantly” reduce the workforce of the public administration and give more power to Musk’s department, by instructing federal agencies to collaborate with him. EFE
