Kyiv, Apr 9 (EFE).- Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said in an interview published on Wednesday that Russian forces have already begun offensives against the Ukrainian regions bordering Russia, such as Kharkiv and Sumi.
During a meeting of European leaders in Paris focused, Zelenskyy had claimed that as per Ukrainian intelligence reports, Russia was preparing new offensives on Sumy, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.
“I can say that the president is absolutely right and this offensive has effectively already begun,” Syrskyi said in an interview with the LB.UA outlet.
He added that the Russian goal was still to conquer all Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk and to continue advancing in Kherson and Zaporizhia, in addition to creating “a buffer zone” in the Ukrainian territories of Kharkiv, Sumi and Chernihiv, bordering Russia and located in the north and northeast of the country.
The head of the Ukrainian Army also said Russia’s plans to conduct military exercises in Belarus this autumn could indicate that the Kremlin was preparing a new offensive from that region, a known ally of Moscow. EFE
