Washington, June 23 (EFE).- United States President Donald Trump announced Monday that Israel and Iran have agreed to a 12-hour “complete total ceasefire,” after which the war “will be considered over.”
“CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
The president detailed that “Iran will start the ceasefire” and 12 hours later Israel will join.
“On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end what should be called, “THE 12 DAY WAR,” Trump added.
“Assuming all goes as it should, and it will, I congratulate both countries, Israel and Iran, for their resilience, courage, and intelligence to end what should be called ‘THE 12 DAY WAR,'” Trump added in his message.
Israel decided to bomb Iran last June 13 to damage its army and nuclear program.
Since then, both countries have regularly exchanged drone and missile strikes.
Trump’s message was issued a few hours after Iran earlier today attacked US bases in Qatar and Iraq in retaliation for Washington’s weekend bombing of three key Iranian nuclear program sites.
The Iranian counterattack is believed to have been designed to avoid further escalation since, in addition to notifying Washington in advance, Tehran had already warned days ago that it could bomb US bases in the Middle East if attacked by the US. EFE
