Rome, July 28 (EFE).- The Vatican’s Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, said Monday that recognizing the State of Palestine was the solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
The two-State solution would allow autonomy and security to the people, Parolin told the media with regard to French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to recognize Palestine.
He also questioned Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s statement that recognizing Palestine would be premature, underlining that in the opinion of the Church, the only solution to the conflict lay in dialogue between the two parties.
With regard to the Israeli attack on the Holy Family Church in Gaza, Vatican number two said that while they have not carried out an independent investigation, it appeared that such errors by the Israeli army are repeated several times, and that particular attention should be paid to preventing attacks on places of worship and humanitarian institutions.
On Sunday, Pope Leo XIV expressed his concern about the serious humanitarian situation in the country, where the civilian population battles hunger and continues to be exposed to violence and death.
The pontiff also renewed his call for an immediate ceasefire, the release of the hostages kidnapped by the Islamist group Hamas and respect for humanitarian law. EFE
