Trump deploys 2 nuclear submarines after Medvedev’s war warning

Washington (EFE).- United States President Donald Trump on Friday ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines in response to what he described as “provocative statements” by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who warned of a possible war between Russia and the United States.

“Due to the provocative statements made by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now deputy chair of the Russian Security Council, I have ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines to the appropriate regions, just in case these reckless and incendiary comments go any further,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The republican leader added, “words matter, and they often carry unintended consequences. I hope this is not one of those cases.”

The submarine deployment and Trump’s messaging mark an escalation in rhetoric between the US. and Russia as the conflict in Ukraine drags on with no diplomatic resolution in sight.

While Trump has not specified the locations of the submarines, defense analysts suggest the move is intended as a strategic signal rather than an immediate military threat.

Medvedev threatens US over Ukraine ultimatum

Trump’s comments came in response to a post earlier this week by Medvedev, who criticized the US ultimatum demanding Russia halt its war in Ukraine.

Medvedev warned that such threats could lead to confrontation between the two countries.

“Trump is playing the ultimatum game with Russia: 50 or 10 days… He should remember two things. First: Russia is neither Israel nor even Iran. Second: each new ultimatum is a step toward war. Not with Ukraine, but with his own country,” Medvedev posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.

Trump, who has grown frustrated with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s refusal to end the bombardment of Ukraine, recently shortened the deadline for a ceasefire to 10 days.

Trump cites heavy Russian losses, blames Biden

In a separate Truth Social post on Friday, Trump claimed that nearly 20,000 Russian soldiers have died in Ukraine this month alone, bringing the total to 112,500 so far this year.

“Too many unnecessary deaths!” Trump wrote. “Ukraine, however, has also suffered greatly. It has lost approximately 8,000 soldiers since January 1, 2025, not including the missing.”

The US president reiterated that the war “should never have happened,” again blaming his predecessor, Joe Biden (2021-2025), for its escalation. “I’m only here to see if I can stop it!” he concluded. EFE
