Alcaraz sends Djokovic home, moves to US Open final

New York, US, Sep 5 (EFE).- Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, 22, prevailed over 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic on Friday, vanquishing the latter 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, in the US Open semifinals.

The first two sets were close, but the gap widened as the match took its toll on the 38-year-old Serbian early in the third set.

Djokovic made two mistakes, allowing the Spaniard to take a 3-1 lead.

Another double fault resulted in Alcaraz’s first match point, which Djokovic sent wide with a batted volley.

The 2022 champion, Alcaraz, will play either Italian top seed Jannik Sinner and Canadian 25th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in Sunday’s final. EFE
