US to revoke Colombia president’s visa for urging American soldiers to disobey Trump

Washington DC (EFE).- The United States Department of State announced Friday that it would withdraw Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s visa for inciting insubordination among American soldiers at a rally in New York.

“Earlier today, Colombian president @petrogustavo stood on a NYC street and urged U.S. soldiers to disobey orders and incite violence. We will revoke Petro’s visa due to his reckless and incendiary actions,” the Department of State posted on social media platform X.

Petro, during a rally in New York against the Israeli campaign in Gaza, called on US soldiers to disobey orders from President Donald Trump and not “point their guns at people,” and called for the formation of a global military force to liberate Palestine.

The Colombian leader has been a vocal opponent of Israel’s war in Gaza, and has suspended coal exports to Israel.

Petro is set to become the second Colombian president to have his US visa revoked after Ernesto Samper in 1996 by the Clinton administration over alleged drug trafficking ties.EFE
