Noah Lyles seals Olympics ticket with US trial win

Las Vegas, United States, June 24 (EFE).- World’s fastest man Noah Lyles sealed his ticket for the Paris Olympic Games on Sunday by winning the 100 meters in the selection trials for the United States Olympic athletics team in Eugene, Oregon, with a time of 9.83 seconds.

Lyles equaled the mark that earned him the gold medal in the 100 meters in Budapest 2023, and triumphed ahead of Kenny Bednarek (9.87 seconds) and Fred Kerley (9.88 seconds.)

Bednarek, who achieved a personal best, and Kerley, who had never run so fast in 2024, were also able to book their tickets to Paris.

It was a bitter outcome for Christian Coleman, the world champion in 2019, who was left out after finishing fourth with a mark of 9.93 seconds.

As a consolation, Coleman may get a place in the 4×100 relay, according to American media.

Among the day’s other notable results, Kendal Ellis qualified for Paris in the women’s 400 meters with a personal best.

She stopped the clock at 49.46 seconds to beat Aaliyah Butler and will be able to compete for gold in Paris, after winning it in the 4×400 in Tokyo three years ago. EFE
