BTS’ Suga fined $11,500 for drunk-driving scooter

Seoul, Sep 30 (EFE).- Suga, one of the members of the hugely popular K-Pop boy band BTS, was fined 15 million won (about $11,500) for driving an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol.

The Seoul Western District Court imposed the fine on the 31-year-old singer on Friday, local news agency Yonhap reported Monday, citing sources close to the case.

On Aug. 6, the police found Suga, whose real name is Min Yoon-gi, lying on the ground next to an electric scooter near his home in the Yongsan district in Seoul.

The rapper confessed that he had driven the electric scooter after drinking at dinner.

His blood alcohol level after being taken to the police station was found to be 0.227 percent, above the maximum 0.08 percent concentration allowed for driving in South Korea.

The artist publicly apologized the following day for the incident, for which his driving license was revoked.

Suga is currently fulfilling his mandatory military service duty as a social service agent after being ruled unfit for regular combat duty due to a shoulder injury.

He is expected to finish his service in June next year and return to the stage along with his band members, most of whom are currently serving in the South Korean military. EFE
