Damascus, Dec 16 (EFE).- The nonprofit Syrian Observatory for Human Rights denounced on Monday that the Israeli Air Force intensified its airstrikes on the Syrian coast in recent hours.
According to the UK-based NGO – which has a wide network of partners on the ground -, violent explosions were recorded on Sunday night in the city of Tartus, due to successive attacks by Israeli aircraft and the dispersal of ground-to-ground missiles from weapons depots.
The same organization also reported Israeli attacks on a missile base near Zama, a town 83 kilometers north-west of Tartus, as well as on an arms depot in rural Tartus, with no reported casualties at the moment.
These bombings come after those recorded on Saturday, when Israeli forces attacked several military targets belonging to the former Syrian regime in the vicinity of Damascus.
The bombings hit weapons stores in the town of Ain Manin, north of the Syrian capital, where large explosions occurred as a result, according to Syria TV, known to lean towards the insurgents that toppled the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Also, between Friday night and early Saturday, Israeli forces carried out 17 airstrikes against military targets, including an airbase and missile stores outside Damascus.
Although Israel had been carrying out bombings against targets of the Syrian Army and its pro-Iranian allies in the region for years, the Israeli Air Force has destroyed hundreds of military targets in the Arab country since the fall of the Assad government. EFE jacb/sc
