Santiago de Chile, Mar 7 (EFE).- More than 2,500 lesbian and transgender women have reported abuse in Chile since 2002 due to their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression, according to data released Friday by a human rights advocacy group.
Thirty-three of these cases were classified as hate crimes, the Movement for the Integration and Liberation of Homosexuals (Movilh) said.
The rights group reported that in 2024 alone, it recorded 118 lesbophobic or transphobic assaults against lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, and transgender women.
“Since we began documenting cases, we have recorded murders, physical and verbal assaults, domestic violence, and workplace and educational discrimination, among other forms of abuse,” said group spokesperson Javiera Zúñiga.
