The first four goals came in the opening 45 minutes from Putellas, López, and two from Esther González.

Cristina Martín-Prieto landed the final blow from Spain, a team with several absences, including Aitana Bonmatí (recently recovered from viral meningitis), Cata Coll (tonsillitis), and captain Irene Paredes (suspended).

Portugal suffered a difficult day from the start with the loss of forward Diogo Jota and his brother in a car accident.

This defeat profiles Spain even further as the Group B winner, likely followed by Italy.

This Thursday, Italy’s Arianna Caruso delivered a wigging goal against Belgium.

On Friday Germany will face Poland, and Denmark will confront Sweden.
