New York City, US, Aug 4 (EFE).- Novak Djokovic will not play in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, which begins on Thursday, the organizers said.
The Cincinnati Open, the final warm-up tournament before the US Open, said Monday that the three-time champion has withdrawn from this year’s event, citing a non-medial reason.
The 38-year-old Serbian tennis player, ranked number 6, has not competed since losing in the Wimbledon semifinals to world number one Jannik Sinner of Italy.
Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam winner, will participate in the US Open, which begins on Aug. 24 in New York, according to the schedule on his website.
He is also scheduled to play with compatriot Olga Danilovic in the mixed doubles at Flushing Meadows, which, as a new development, will be played the week before the start of the main draw. EFE
