Russia launches fresh attack with 135 drones on Ukrainian territory

Kyiv, Oct 18 (EFE).- The Russian forces launched a total of 135 drones overnight against Ukrainian territory, in one of the largest attacks using unmanned aircraft since the beginning of the war, according to the Ukrainian air force on Friday.

Ukrainian air defenses shot down 80 of these drones and redirected another 44 thanks to electronic interference with which Ukraine intercepts an increasing number of kamikaze Shahed drones and other types of unmanned devices used by Russia.

The drones were shot down over the the Ukrainian regions of Odessa and Jerson (south), Kyiv and Cherniguiv (north), Cherkasi, Zhitommir, Kirovograd and Poltava (center), Rivne, Chernivtsi, Khmelnitsky, Volin and Vinnytsia (west) and Kharkiv and Sumi (north-east).

Two of the drones that were neutralized with interference ended up flying into the territory of Belarus, a country neighboring Ukraine and Russia’s ally in this war.

The drones were launched from the Russian territories of Kursk, Orel and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, all of which are close to the border with Ukraine.

Russia has been attacking Ukrainian territory with an increasing number of kamikaze drones, largely due to the development in the manufacture of Iranian Shahed drones on Russian territory.

Ukraine is increasingly resorting to electronic interference to neutralize these drones, a cheaper measure than unmanned shootings that is effective even when drones fly too high for Ukrainian mobile patrols that shoot down these enemy aircraft with lighter weapons. EFE
