Washington\/Tehran Apr 18 (EFE).- Israel launched several missiles in Iran\u2019s Isfahan province on Friday in retaliation for its weekend attack, a senior US official told ABC News.<\/p>
The Israeli attack occurred early morning in the province of Isfahan, the US broadcaster reported, citing officials from US President Joe Biden’s administration.<\/p>
Israeli missiles have hit Isfahan, where Natanz is located, an area where one of Iran’s nuclear facilities is located, according to FOX.<\/p>
The American network said that the attack was “limited,” citing military sources.<\/p>
Explosions were also reported near Isfahan airport, possibly hitting an air base in the area.<\/p>
Iranian nuclear facilities are \u201ccompletely safe,\u201d the country’s media reported Friday, citing \u201creliable sources,\u201d following reports of strong explosions.<\/p>
\u201cThe nuclear facilities in the province of Isfahan are completely safe,\u201d reported the Tasnim agency, which is linked to the Revolutionary Guard, the security forces in charge of protecting the country’s nuclear facilities.<\/p>
Iranian state television reported on Friday the sound of \u201cloud explosions\u201d in the central province of Isfahan.<\/p>
It attributed the sound to the downing of drones by the country’s air defenses, amid tensions over possible Israeli retaliation against Iran.<\/p>
Isfahan is home to missile production centers and nuclear facilities.<\/p>
Iranian media also reported the sound of explosions in Tabriz, a city located in the west of the country.<\/p>
State agency IRNA reported that air defenses had been activated in \u201cseveral provinces\u201d after \u201cloud explosions\u201d were heard in the center of the country.<\/p>
The Mehr agency, for its part, shared a video in which air defenses are supposedly seen opening fire during the night.<\/p>
In January 2023, a series of drone attacks caused serious damage to a weapons plant in the city of Isfahan.<\/p>
The attack was attributed to Israel, which did not confirm it. EFE<\/p>
