Tehran, Oct 2 (EFE).- Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Wednesday blamed the United States and certain European countries for the growing tensions in the Middle East a day after Tehran launched hundreds of ballistic missiles at Israel.<\/p>
\u201cThe root of the problem in our region, these conflicts and wars, is the presence of those who claim to advocate peace in the region. That is, the United States and some European countries,\u201d Khamenei said during a meeting with academics and scientists in Tehran.<\/p>
\u201cIf the villainy of the US and certain European countries is removed from this region, undoubtedly these conflicts and wars will be completely eliminated,\u201d the political and religious leader said, according to his official X account.<\/p>
Khamenei accused Western countries of provoking military confrontations in the Middle East, often leading to regional crises.<\/p>
\u201cWe are hopeful that with God\u2019s help (\u2026) and collaboration with other nations, we will remove our enemies from the region,\u201d he added.<\/p>
Khamenei\u2019s remarks came a day after Iran launched hundreds of ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday evening. The Iranian military claimed that most of the missiles struck their intended targets.<\/p>
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the attack was in retaliation for the killings of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and an Iranian general in Beirut on Saturday, as well as the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in July.<\/p>
Following the attack, Iran warned regional countries that it would consider any nation allowing Israel to use its airspace for retaliation as an “enemy.” It also urged the United States not to intervene.<\/p>
On Wednesday, Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi held talks with his counterparts from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany to address the rising Middle East tensions amid Israel’s retaliation threats.<\/p>
Tuesday’s missile barrage marked Iran’s second attack on Israel since April, when Iran targeted Israeli territory with missiles and drones in response to the killing of seven Iranian security troops at the Iranian consulate in Damascus. EFE<\/p>
