Beijing, Oct 23 (EFE).- Chinese state media said Wednesday that the meeting between China’s President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, the previous day sent “a positive signal” to the world.<\/p>

At the meeting, the third between both leaders this year and held on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan, Xi said that China’s profound friendship with Russia would remain unchanged despite the turbulent global situation.<\/p>

He also described the bloc – comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates – as a platform that would contribute “toward a more equal and orderly multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization,” the official Global Times newspaper said in an editorial on Wednesday.<\/p>

Xi and Putin “have met over 40 times in various settings, establishing a strong working relationship and a deep personal friendship. The two leaders have maintained close communication on strategic issues…setting a global example for major power interactions,” it added.<\/p>

The newspaper said that the meeting, which demonstrated the “strategic trust” between China and Russia, sends “a positive signal of the independence of their relationship, free from external interference.”<\/p>

“We have noticed that some Western media outlets have extended their hostility toward Russia to this Kazan Summit, repeating their old tactics of smearing China-Russia cooperation and creating external noise by hyping bloc confrontations,” the editorial said.<\/p>

But, according to the newspaper, the “new paradigm of major-country relations established by China and Russia plays a positive role in various multilateral platforms, including BRICS,…strengthening the unity of developing and ‘Global South’ countries and contributing to improving the global governance system.”<\/p>

Recently, Putin proposed China, Brazil and India as possible mediators in future peace negotiations with Ukraine, as opposed to the US, which according to Moscow, would be interested in prolonging the conflict.<\/p>

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, China has maintained an ambiguous position on the conflict, calling for respect for the territorial integrity of all countries, including Ukraine, and attention to the legitimate concerns of all States, in reference to Russia. EFE<\/p>
