Kyiv, Dec 20 (EFE).- Russia launched ballistic missiles at Kyiv early Friday morning, killing at least one person and destroying buildings, infrastructure and vehicles across three capital districts, according to city\u2019s military administration.<\/p>
Russia likely used Kinzhal hypersonic ballistic missiles as well as Iskander-M or KN-23 ballistic missiles, the latter thought to be supplied by North Korea, in the attack that began at around 7 am (4:00 GMT), Kyiv City Military Administration said on Telegram. <\/p>
In the first damage assessment offered by the administration, several cars caught on fire in the capital’s Holosiivskyi district, where the fatality occurred and others were seriously injured. <\/p>
It added that missile wreckage damaged the road and a gas pipe and at least two office buildings, causing a fire to break out on the roof of one, with people believed to have been trapped inside.<\/p>
Fires also broke out in Solomianskyi district due to falling debris, and in Shevchenkivskyi district.<\/p>
Due to damage to mains, 630 residential buildings, 16 medical institutions, 17 schools, and 13 kindergartens in Kyiv have been left without heating, the administration said.<\/p>
The intensity of the explosions set off the alarms of many vehicles parked on the streets across the city. <\/p>
Kyiv had already been attacked hours earlier by an as yet unspecified number of kamikaze drones which, according to the administration, were destroyed by Ukrainian defenses. EFE<\/p>
