{"id":1737205,"date":"2025-03-13T20:20:33","date_gmt":"2025-03-13T19:20:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pre.efe.com\/?p=1737205"},"modified":"2025-03-14T17:02:15","modified_gmt":"2025-03-14T16:02:15","slug":"icc-admits-philippines-duterte-detention-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pre.efe.com\/en\/latest-news\/2025-03-13\/icc-admits-philippines-duterte-detention-center\/","title":{"rendered":"ICC admits Philippines\u2019 Duterte to detention center after \u2018medical checks\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Hague, Mar 13 (EFE).- The International Criminal Court (ICC) confirmed that former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was admitted to its detention center in The Hague, Netherlands, on Thursday after undergoing standard medical checks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Duterte, 79, was extradited from Manila on Wednesday under an ICC arrest warrant issued on Mar. 7 for the alleged \u201ccrime against humanity of murder.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ICC spokesperson Fadi El Abdallah told reporters that Duterte arrived at the ICC Detention Center on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDuterte is under ICC custody at the ICC detention center. He was admitted today following all medical checks,\u201d Abdallah said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explained that it is \u201cstandard practice\u201d for the ICC to take measures to protect the \u201chealth and well-being\u201d of suspects upon their arrival in custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abdallah said that the schedule for Duterte\u2019s first court appearance would be announced soon, emphasizing the importance of respecting the \u201cintegrity of the judicial process.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/efe.com\/\/srv\/htdocs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/rss-efeb108a4d7ffb94675161c5bd8d5e8027495ba407bw.jpg?fit=1920%2C1280&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"The Scheveningen Prison, where Philippine former president Rodrigo Duterte was taken in custody, in Scheveningen, a district of The Hague, Mar. 13, 2025.
