Paris, Apr 9 (EFE).\u2013 Spanish director Rodrigo Sorogoyen will preside over the jury of the 64th Critics\u2019 Week, a parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival, after being selected for the same role last year but missing it due to personal reasons.<\/p>
Joining Sorogoyen on the jury are British actor Daniel Kaluuya, Moroccan journalist Jihane Bougrine, Franco-Canadian cinematographer Jos\u00e9e Deshaies, and Indonesian producer Yulia Evina Bhar, the organization said in a statement Wednesday.<\/p>
For Sorogoyen, Critics\u2019 Week serves as \u201ca unique springboard to launch and reinforce the careers of young directors,\u201d as it is limited to short films and debut or sophomore features.<\/p>
\u201cWithout these spaces, we would continue to reward, project, and give voice only to those who have already carved out their paths, overlooking new concerns and emerging forms,\u201d said the director of \u201cAs Bestas\u201d and \u201cEl Reino,\u201d as well as series such as Antidisturbios and Los A\u00f1os Nuevos.<\/p>
Critics\u2019 Week, which runs parallel to the Cannes Film Festival from May 13 to 24, will begin a day after the main event and conclude on May 22, two days before the Palme d\u2019Or is awarded.<\/p>
Founded in 1962 by the French Syndicate of Film Critics, the section aims to discover emerging cinematic voices from around the world.<\/p>
Last year\u2019s grand prize went to Simon of the Mountain, directed by Argentina\u2019s Federico Luis. EFE<\/p>
