New York, United States, (EFE).- Lawyers for American rapper and producer Sean \u201cDiddy\u201d Combs sought to cast doubt Thursday on the testimony of his former partner, singer Cassie Ventura, by presenting messages suggesting she \u201cenjoyed\u201d or helped organize sexual encounters with male sex workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These encounters, referred to as \u201cfreak offs,\u201d are central to the sex trafficking case against Combs, who could face life in prison if convicted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cassie, eight and a half months pregnant, has testified for four days about her 11-year-on-and-off relationship with Combs, detailing alleged abuse and forced participation in drug-fueled sex acts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The defense began cross-examining her on Thursday in a Manhattan federal courtroom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe was abusive early on,\u201d Cassie told jurors earlier this week. \u201cI agreed to participate in the beginning because I was in love, and I wanted to make him happy. But I never wanted to do any of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chats presented as evidence of consent<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Attorney Anna Estevao, leading Combs\u2019 defense, presented emails from 2009 in which Cassie appeared to initiate or welcome the sex acts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In one message, Cassie allegedly wrote: \u201cI\u2019m always ready for a freak off.\u201d In another message, she suggested scheduling the encounter on a Friday so they could \u201crecover by Monday.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pressed about the messages, Cassie testified she did not recall writing them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She reiterated that she feared violent retaliation if she ever said no to Combs, describing him as \u201ccontrolling\u201d and \u201cintimidating.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prosecutors countered by showing other messages in which Cassie expressed distress over the encounter. \u201cThey don\u2019t make me feel good,\u201d she wrote in one, and in another, she asked to stop participating altogether. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Combs, wearing a white sweater and seated beside his attorneys, watched Cassie\u2019s testimony closely and occasionally whispered with his legal team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cassie describes Combs\u2019 addictions and abuse<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The courtroom also heard testimony about Combs\u2019 alleged drug use and violent behavior. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked by Estevao if Combs had any addictions, Cassie replied: \u201cHe was addicted to success.\u201d She then added, \u201cHe also had an opioid addiction, he told me and, I saw him take them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cassie said that both she and Combs used MDMA, cocaine, and opioids during many of the so-called \u201cfreak offs.\u201d She linked Combs\u2019 violent outbursts to his drug use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In earlier proceedings, prosecutors showed a video of Combs allegedly assaulting her and images of her injuries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Estevao attempted to highlight early affectionate messages exchanged between the two, suggesting a consensual dynamic. But Cassie responded that despite his cheating and abusive behavior, \u201cI kept going back.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Global attention on Trial against cultural icon<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The trial has drawn international media attention due to Combs\u2019 status as a music and fashion icon. Known globally for his work in hip hop and R&B, Combs has won three Grammy Awards and built a media empire spanning music, fashion, and spirits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Combs faces charges of sex trafficking, transportation for the purpose of prostitution, and conspiracy to commit extortion. Prosecutors allege he orchestrated a pattern of abuse using fame, power, and money to control and exploit women. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In opening statements, his defense acknowledged the artist\u2019s \u201ccomplicated\u201d personality and history of domestic violence but insisted all sexual activities were consensual. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
