Bangkok, May 26 (EFE).\u2014 Vietnamese low-cost carrier VietJet Air signed an agreement on Monday with European aerospace giant Airbus to purchase 20 A330-900neo wide-body aircraft, coinciding with the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Hanoi as part of his Southeast Asia tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VietJet President Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao signed the deal in the Vietnamese capital with Airbus International President Wouter van Wersch, who is accompanying Macron to promote France\u2019s Indo-Pacific strategy and seek trade and energy partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Macron and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to an Airbus statement, the order supports VietJet\u2019s long-term plan to expand its international footprint over the next decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The acquisition of the 20 A330-900neos will enable VietJet to strengthen its presence on high-capacity routes across the Asia-Pacific, a region where passenger numbers are projected to grow by 7.9 percent in 2025, the fastest growth globally, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VietJet currently operates an all-Airbus fleet of 115 single-aisle A320 Family aircraft, with 96 more on order, and seven A330-300s.<\/p>\n\n\n

This latest order follows a previous purchase of 20 A330-900neos equipped with next-generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and a non-stop range of 7,200 nautical miles (13,300 km).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macron, accompanied by his wife Brigitte Macron, is on a Southeast Asian tour that will also take him to Indonesia and Singapore. EFE<\/p>\n\n\n\n
