Madrid, Jun 12 (EFE).- An extensive report containing audio recordings from Spain’s Civil Guard’s Central Operative Unit (UCO) has revealed possible vote rigging in favor of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in the 2014 primaries of the ruling Socialist Party, as well as the irregular management of nearly \u20ac620,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report links the third-highest ranking official in the Socialist Party to a corrupt scheme involving the illegal collection of commissions on public contracts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Spanish Civil Guard (Guardia Civil) suspects that these irregular commissions would total at least \u20ac620,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pressure on Sanchez and his government has increased in recent days due to corruption allegations, after a former Socialist Party member was accused of attempting to launch a smear campaign against the Guardia Civil unit investigating the Prime Minister\u2019s wife, his brother and the former transport minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During Thursday morning’s parliamentary session, opposition parties, including the conservative People’s Party and the far-right Vox, denounced the “corruption” within Sanchez’s government and called for the prime minister’s resignation. EFE <\/p>\n\n\n\n
