International Desk (EFE).- Hollywood star Emma Stone lit up the Venice Film Festival on Thursday with Yorgos Lanthimos\u2019 \u201cBugonia,\u201d a brutal and satirical thriller competing for the Golden Lion, where the actress also revealed her belief in extraterrestrial life.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The day also featured George Clooney in Noah Baumbach\u2019s \u201cJay Kelly,\u201d Laszl\u00f3 Nemes\u2019 war-themed Orphan, Paolo Sorrentino\u2019s political drama \u201cLa Grazia,\u201d and Noomi Rapace in \u201cMother,\u201d a film revisiting Mother Teresa\u2019s human struggles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stone, who plays a ruthless executive kidnapped by a worker convinced she is an alien, said the story reflects contemporary society\u2019s disconnection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe live in a time when it\u2019s hard to know who you are really dealing with,\u201d she told reporters. Joking, she added: \u201cHow do you know I\u2019m not an extraterrestrial?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

The Oscar-winning actress recalled her admiration for Carl Sagan\u2019s Cosmos, admitting, \u201cI believe in aliens. The idea that we are alone in this vast universe is narcissistic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director Yorgos Lanthimos stressed that the dystopia in the film is rooted in today\u2019s reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTechnology, artificial intelligence, wars, climate change, denial, this is a reflection of our times,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stone praised her collaboration with Lanthimos, describing the environment as \u201ca family\u201d that allows creative exploration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesse Plemons, her co-star, warned the film may unsettle audiences: \u201cIt might not be suitable for people who dislike violence, but we can\u2019t close our eyes to things that scare us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

George Clooney\u2019s \u201cJay Kelly\u201d and Venice glamour<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The festival also saw the premiere of \u201cJay Kelly,\u201d Noah Baumbach\u2019s portrait of a fading film legend played by George Clooney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The director explained his casting choice: \u201cI wanted audiences to already have a relationship with the actor. George reveals more of himself as the film goes on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Although Clooney missed the press conference due to illness, Aman Sandler and Laura Dern joined Baumbach in Venice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dern praised the film as \u201ca beautiful reflection on honesty versus the masks we wear.\u201d The film will stream on Netflix from Dec. 5 after a theatrical release in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politics and history on screen: Nemes, Sorrentino, Rapace<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hungarian director L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Nemes presented Orphan, set in 1957 Budapest, which he described as his artistic response to wars past and present, including Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCinema must create human connections and honesty. That is my answer as a filmmaker,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Italian auteur Paolo Sorrentino unveiled La Grazia, centered on a fictional president facing decisions on euthanasia and pardons.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve portrayed vain politicians before. Now I wanted to show another kind, the ethical and moral one,\u201d said Sorrentino, while actor Toni Servillo added that the film depicts \u201ca human side lacking in today\u2019s politics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swedish actress Noomi Rapace brought Mother, a portrait of Mother Teresa\u2019s early struggles to found her order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rapace highlighted the nun\u2019s courage: \u201cIf she were alive today, she would be in Gaza with the children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
