Jerusalem (EFE).- The Houthis announced on Saturday that Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahawi, the prime minister of the pro-Iranian rebel group that controls part of Yemen, was killed in an Israeli air attack on Aug. 28, along with several of his ministers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We announce the martyrdom of the mujahid Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahawi, prime minister of the Government of Change and Construction, along with several of his fellow ministers, on Thursday,” the Houthi presidency said in a statement on social media, as reported by Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The sources added that the Israel Defense Forces attacked the capital, Sanaa, as part of ongoing clashes between Israel and the Houthis that began after the war in Gaza started in October 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Israeli military said in a statement that its forces on Thursday struck \u201ca Houthi terrorist regime military target in the area of Sanaa.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Al-Rahawi, who was the prime minister of the Houthi-led government in areas of the divided country controlled by the rebels since August 2024, was attacked alongside other government members while holding a routine meeting to evaluate their activities over the past year, according to the rebels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Houthis’ political arm emphasized that their government and institutions are still capable of fulfilling their duties despite the killing of cabinet members by Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Saturday, the Palestinian group Hamas mourned the death of the Houthi prime minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They described the attack as a “terrible crime” and a “flagrant violation of the sovereignty of an Arab state,” thanking Al-Rahawi and the Houthi leaders for their support during the war in Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These clashes have continued despite a ceasefire between the Houthis and Israel’s main ally, the United States, which came into force in May 2025. EFE<\/p>\n\n\n\n
