Cairo, Sep 15 (EFE) – The countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council ordered on Monday the military command to take the necessary measures to activate \u201cjoint defense mechanisms and Gulf deterrent capabilities\u201d in the face of last week’s Israeli attack on Doha, which targeted Hamas negotiators. <\/p>
\u201cThe Supreme Council affirmed the full solidarity of the GCC states with the State of Qatar in all measures it takes to confront this attack, stressing that the security of the GCC states is indivisible and that any attack on any one of them is an attack on them all, in accordance with the GCC Charter and the Joint Defense Agreement,\u201d said the organization\u2019s statement drafted at an extraordinary session at the Arab-Islamic summit in Doha.<\/p>
The statement added that the GCC\u2019s military bodies will hold an urgent meeting to \u201cassess the defensive posture\u201d and to instruct the Unified Military Command \u201cto take the necessary executive measures to activate joint defense mechanisms and Gulf deterrent capabilities,\u201d without providing further details.<\/p>
The GCC is comprised of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, the latter two being the only countries in the Gulf region to have established diplomatic relations with Israel, following the signing of the Abraham Accords five years ago today. <\/p>
In the eleven-point communique, the Gulf states also warned that \u201cIsrael’s persistence in its criminal practices and its flagrant disregard for all international norms, laws, and the Charter of the United Nations, will lead to serious repercussions that threaten regional and international peace and security.\u201d<\/p>
They also called on \u201cthe international community and influential countries to take responsibility and implement measures to stop these actions, which they stated have impacted the standing of international law.\u201d<\/p>
“These violations represent a dangerous precedent that must not be overcome or allowed to stand without the imposition of deterrent international sanctions,” he asserted.<\/p>
The statement concluded by calling on \u201cpeace-loving nations of the world to condemn the brutal Israeli aggression against the State of Qatar and its attempts to obstruct international efforts and diplomatic solutions aimed at stopping Israeli attacks and the crimes of genocide it practices in the Gaza Strip.\u201d<\/p>
During the emergency Arab-Islamic summit, more than 50 Arab and Islamic countries called on the international community to take steps to impose sanctions on Israel, review diplomatic relations, suspend the Jewish state’s membership in the UN, and support arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).EFE <\/p>
