United Nations (EFE).- Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian told the UN General Assembly on Wednesday that the Islamic Republic \u201chas never sought to manufacture nuclear weapons and never will\u201d nuclear weapons, as the country faces the imminent reinstatement of UN Security Council sanctions over its nuclear program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The president accused the so-called E3 (Britain, France, and Germany) of acting \u201cat the service of the United States by triggering the process to reimpose international sanctions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The three countries argue Tehran has failed to comply with its obligations under the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pezeshkian condemned the European move as \u201cillegal,\u201d claiming it was carried out with \u201cpressure, intimidation, impositions, and blatant abuse,\u201d while stressing that the West itself failed to meet its commitments after Washington\u2019s unilateral withdrawal from the deal in 2018. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unless an agreement is reached, six UN resolutions suspended under the JCPOA will be restored against Iran starting early Saturday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Iranian leader also denounced Israeli strikes against the Islamic Republic in June, which he said killed more than 1,000 people over 12 days of conflict. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis blatant aggression, in addition to causing the death of several commanders, citizens, children, women, scientists, and academic elites of my country, dealt a severe blow to international trust and to the prospect of peace in the region,\u201d Pezeshkian told the assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that the attacks, which allegedly included bombing on nuclear facilities, took place while Tehran and Washington were engaged in negotiations, calling them \u201ca great betrayal of diplomacy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pezeshkian further accused Israel of committing \u201cgenocide\u201d in Gaza, alleging that it deliberately targeted children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also claimed Israel was responsible for military actions against Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, and Qatar. EFE <\/p>\n\n\n\n
