United Nations (EFE).- Russia sees no willingness from Kyiv or European countries to negotiate what it calls a \u201cjust peace deal\u201d to end the war in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told the UN General Assembly on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo far, neither Kyiv nor its European sponsors seems to understand the urgency of the situation, and we are unwilling to negotiate just a peace deal,\u201d Lavrov said in his address. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He accused European nations of being \u201cobsessed with the utopian goal of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Moscow, he argued, seeks to address the \u201croot causes\u201d of the conflict while ensuring its national security. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRussia\u2019s security in territories under Kyiv\u2019s control must be restored,\u201d Lavrov declared. \u201cOnly on this basis would Moscow discuss security guarantees for Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lavrov reiterated Moscow\u2019s long-standing complaint that NATO has ignored its security concerns and continued to expand eastward. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis process continues today despite promises made to Soviet leaders not to move an inch to the East,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also denounced what he described as growing threats of force against Russia. \u201cWe are accused of plotting attacks on the European Union, but Russia never had and does not have such intentions,\u201d he insisted- <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Turning to Washington\u2019s role, Lavrov struck a more measured note, saying Moscow holds \u201ccertain hopes\u201d for talks with the United States. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn the approach of the current US administration, we see a desire not only to facilitate realistic solutions to the Ukrainian crisis but also to develop pragmatic cooperation without adopting an ideological stance,\u201d he said. EFE <\/p>\n\n\n\n
