Copenhagen (EFE).- Leaders from 47 European countries voiced strong unity with Ukraine on Thursday, branding Moscow a \u201ccommon enemy\u201d during a summit in Copenhagen, even as Hungary continued to block Kyiv\u2019s bid to join the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Community of Political Europe, a forum of EU members plus countries like the UK and Western Balkan states, gathered to discuss issues ranging from Russia\u2019s \u201chybrid war\u201d and European rearmament to climate risks and drug trafficking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Danish hosts placed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the center of the meeting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen appeared alongside him at the closing press conference, surrounded by sunflower-themed decorations, Ukraine\u2019s national symbol. <\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cEvery euro, dollar, or Danish crown sent to Ukraine is a direct investment in Europe\u2019s security,\u201d Frederiksen said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelenskyy welcomed pledges of continued military and financial support, as leaders from France and the UK stressed the need to bolster Kyiv\u2019s defenses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukraine as Europe\u2019s first line of defense<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

European leaders hailed Ukraine as the EU\u2019s \u201cfirst line of defense\u201d against Russia and drew inspiration from Kyiv\u2019s battlefield innovations, especially in drone technology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Commission has proposed a joint \u201canti-drone wall\u201d to counter increasing Russian drone incursions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian drone experts are already cooperating with Denmark on developing this system after the Nordic country suffered several drone intrusions in recent months. <\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cWe must make Europe so secure that war against us is not an option,\u201d Frederiksen said, underscoring Denmark\u2019s commitment to strengthening joint defenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, divisions emerged over the European Commission\u2019s plan to finance a 140 billion euros \u201creconstruction loan\u201d for Ukraine using profits from frozen Russian assets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belgium, home to Euroclear, which holds most of the frozen 200 billion euros, expressed legal concerns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hungary stands apart <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n again broke ranks, rejecting Brussels\u2019 asset plan and reaffirming his opposition to opening EU accession talks with Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHungary will never participate in any initiative to take money that is not ours,\u201d Orb\u00e1n declared, boasting that he had blocked a proposal to bypass his veto.<\/p>\n\n\n

Orb\u00e1n remains Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s closest ally inside the EU. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
