Multan, Pakistan, Jan 24 (EFE).- Electricity was restored in Pakistan on Tuesday morning after a major power outage caused a blackout across the country, including in the capital Islamabad and financial hub of Karachi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An energy ministry statement said all grid stations across the country were working now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ministry spokesperson Sohail Atiq said power generating plants started shutting down one by one on Monday due to some frequency variation and voltage fluctuation in the south of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pakistan is facing a severe economic crisis forcing the government to draw a new energy conservation plan and reduce consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The plan included the early closure of markets and malls and restrictions on low-efficiency energy products.
According to experts, Pakistan\u2019s peak summer electricity usage is around 29,000 MW up from 12,000 MW in winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As per the energy ministry, the total power generation was 9,704 MW on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pakistan, a population of 220 million, had similar outages in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The largest outage was in May 2018, when a technical glitch caused several power plants to go offline. EFE
