{"id":284045,"date":"2023-02-15T15:53:31","date_gmt":"2023-02-15T14:53:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pre.efe.com\/?p=284045"},"modified":"2024-06-10T12:07:53","modified_gmt":"2024-06-10T10:07:53","slug":"barca-payments-to-firm-linked-to-ex-referee-official-sparks-probe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pre.efe.com\/en\/latest-news\/2023-02-15\/barca-payments-to-firm-linked-to-ex-referee-official-sparks-probe\/","title":{"rendered":"Bar\u00e7a payments to firm linked to ex-referee official sparks probe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Barcelona, Spain, Feb 15 (EFE).- Barcelona provincial prosecutors have opened a corruption probe into a company linked to a former senior official at Spain\u2019s referee committee (CTA) that had accepted over a million euros in payments from FC Barcelona in the space of three years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The probe was launched into DASNIL 95 SL, a firm belonging to former referee and CTA vice-president Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Enr\u00edquez Negreira, after an inspection detected payments worth 1.4 million euros paid by the Catalan club between 2016-18, SER Catalunya reported Wednesday.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bar\u00e7a allegedly paid the company 532,728 euros in 2016, 541,752 euros in 2017 and 318,200 euros in 2018, the year Enr\u00edquez Negreira left the CTA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former Bar\u00e7a president Josep Maria Bartomeu was cited by the news outlet as saying he put an end to the payments as part of a cost-cutting policy but that they had occurred from \u201cat least 2003.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcbarcelona.com\/en\/club\/news\/3065705\/fc-barcelona-official-announcement\">statement <\/a>Wednesday, the club said it had previously contracted external consultants to provide reports on youth players from other clubs in Spain and that the \u201crelationship\u201d with the company had extended to technical reports on refereeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is a common practice among professional football clubs,\u201d it said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFC Barcelona regrets that this information has been released precisely when the team has hit its best form of the season,\u201d adding that it would be taking \u201clegal action against those who are trying to tarnish the club&#8217;s image with possible insinuations against its good reputation that could be caused by the release of such information.\u201dEFE<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">fa\/jt\/ks<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Barcelona, Spain, Feb 15 (EFE).- Barcelona provincial prosecutors have opened a corruption probe into a company linked to a former senior official at Spain\u2019s referee committee (CTA) that had accepted over a million euros in payments from FC Barcelona in the space of three years.&nbsp;
