Kathmandu (EPA-EFE).- Revelers in Nepal\u2019s capital on Monday playfully celebrated Holi, the iconic Hindu festival which ushers in the arrival of Spring.<\/p>\n\n\n

Following subdued events for the last three years due to pandemic restrictions, hundreds of people flooded the streets of Kathmandu to smear colored powder and spurt water at each other.<\/p>\n\n\n

Holi is mainly celebrated in Nepal and India, but over the years has grown to be celebrated all over the world, with festivities observed on two days: Holika Dahan and Rangwali Holi.<\/p>\n\n\n

On the first day, families and friends gather after sunset over a bonfire where they perform rituals such as throwing grains and chickpeas onto the fire, and on the second day, revelers come together to play with colorful powder and water to celebrate the arrival of Spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Hindu mythology, the festival is linked to a legend that tells the story of the triumph of good over evil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
