New Delhi, Mar 13 (EFE).- India woke up ecstatic on Monday after two films from the country ended up with wins at the Oscars, accounting for the country\u2019s sixth and seventh Academy Awards in all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The song \u201cNaatu Naatu\u201d from the movie \u201cRRR\u201d won the Best Original Song, while \u201cThe Elephant Whisperers\u201d won the Best Documentary Short Film at the 95th Annual Academy Awards, held late Sunday at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


\u201cExceptional! The popularity of \u2018Naatu Naatu\u2019 is global. It will be a song that will be remembered for years to come. India is elated and proud,\u201d Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cCongratulations to Kartiki Gonsalves, Guneet Monga and the entire team of \u2018The Elephant Whisperers\u2019 for this honour. Their work wonderfully highlights the importance of sustainable development and living in harmony with nature,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Mainstream media channels were quick to stress on this achievement, with headers such as \u201cIndia shines at Oscars,\u201d while highlighting \u201cNaatu Naatu\u2019s\u201d as the first song from an Indian movie to win the award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Naatu Naatu went viral on social media both in India and abroad for its catchy song and dance sequence, which had earlier won the Golden Globe Award in the same category in Jan 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The award was received by the song\u2019s composer, M.M. Keeravani, and lyricist, Chandrabose, as it beat competition from the likes of Lady Gaga\u2019s \u201cHold my Hand\u201d for the movie \u201cTop Gun: Maverick,\u201d Rihanna\u2019s \u201cLift Me Up\u201d from \u201cBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever,\u201d \u201cThis Is a Life\u201d from \u201cEverything Everywhere All at Once\u201d and \u201cApplause\u201d from the movie \u201cTell It Like a Woman.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The other big win was the Best  Documentary Short Film for \u201cThe Elephant Whisperers,\u201d which tells the story of an orphaned baby elephant in the care of an indigenous couple, portraying the strong bond between them, while surrounded by exquisite natural beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga, the documentary was released on Netflix in Dec 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The 95th edition of the Oscars turned out to be the most memorable one for the south Asian country since 2009, when \u201cSlumdog Millionaire,\u201d a British movie set in India, bagged eight awards, three of which went to Indians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


India won its first Academy Award in 1983, when Bhanu Athaiya received the Oscar for Best Costume Design for the movie \u2018Gandhi\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
