Kyiv, May 18 (EFE).- Russia launched another barrage of missiles overnight on Kyiv, the ninth such attack this month, Ukrainian authorities reported on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukraine\u2019s capital came under fire on Wednesday night and early Thursday as Russian forces launched a wave of missile strikes using strategic Tu-95MS and Tu-160 bombers from the Caspian Sea, Kyiv\u2019s regional military administration reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA series of air attacks on Kyiv, unprecedented in their power, intensity and variety, continues,\u201d Serhii Popko, head of Kyiv\u2019s regional military administration, warned.<\/p>\n\n\n

Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said that most of the damage occurred in the Darnytskyi district where a garage cooperative caught fire, which has been extinguished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile in Odesa, a missile strike killed at least one person and injured three, Natalia Humeniuk, the head of the Joint Press Center of the South Operational Command, reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that all eight rockets were intercepted by Ukraine air defense forces, but that an industrial complex in Odesa was damaged by the debris of two intercepted missiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mykolaiv region was also targeted in the overnight attack, which saw some 30 missiles fired by Russia, Ukraine\u2019s air force said, adding that 29 were shot down.<\/p>\n\n\n

Russia\u2019s defense ministry said the overnight attack had destroyed warehouses storing Western-made weapons and Ukrainian army equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“During the night the Russian Armed Forces struck with high-precision weapons of long range from the sea and air warehouses with weapons and equipment of foreign production and the enemy’s stockpiles,” spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in his daily repart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As a result of the attacks, considerable stocks of weapons and ammunition of the Ukrainian Army were destroyed and the delivery of stocks to the combat zones was prevented,” he added, without specifying the location of the warehouses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Ukrainian military authorities, Russian forces attacked the Odessa and Mykolaiv regions with missiles in the night, in addition to the capital Kiev.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile in Crimea, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014, an explosion caused a train to derail, with no victims reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Ukraine neither confirmed nor denied responsibility, a military intelligence representative Andri Yusov warned there will be no peace in the peninsula “as long as there are Russian terrorists there” in remarks that were broadcast on national television. EFE<\/p>\n\n\n\n
