Chinese state TV airs documentary simulating Taiwan invasion

Beijing/Taipei, Sep 17 (EFE).- Chinese state broadcaster CCTV aired a documentary depicting a hypothetical invasion of Taiwan, featuring footage of military exercises by China’s ground and naval forces.

The 20-minute documentary simulates a landing operation in which Chinese forces attempt to seize control of Taiwan, using reconnaissance drones to support helicopters in deploying troops to the island. Beijing views Taiwan as a breakaway province.

Aired this week, the recent episode of the series shows Chinese troops encountering resistance from “enemy forces” equipped with portable anti-aircraft missiles, similar to those supplied to Taiwan by the United States.

The documentary also highlights the capabilities of China’s most advanced destroyer, the Yan’an, showcasing an electronic warfare training session conducted in waters east of Taiwan, focusing on overcoming electromagnetic interference challenges.

In the simulation, the destroyer coordinates with carrier-based aircraft to fend off enemy electronic jamming jets, ultimately driving them away.

“We execute combat missions aboard destroyer Yan’an, rushing at the forefront of the aircraft carrier formation, engaging in air defense, anti-submarine warfare, and electronic warfare,” says the ship’s deputy commander, Wang Liang, in the broadcast.

Additionally, the documentary features ground forces utilizing the Chinese army’s most advanced long-range missile, known as “Long Fire.”

Chinese media has occasionally aired animated videos and documentaries depicting an invasion of Taiwan, including hypothetical bombing campaigns targeting Taiwanese cities.

The Taiwanese government has condemned these actions as “psychological warfare,” which coincide with increasing incursions by Chinese aircraft and naval vessels into Taiwan’s airspace and waters.

Taiwanese civil society also organizes activities annually to prepare the population for a potential Chinese invasion. These activities simulate scenarios like emergency evacuations and first aid in case of bombings.

One example of such activities is “Operation Blue Magpie,” an annual drill organized by the Kuma Academy, with its fourth edition scheduled for this Saturday in Taipei. EFE
