Moscow, Sep 17 (EFE).- North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui arrived Tuesday in Russia to meet with her Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, according to the Russian diplomatic press office.
“We have a brief meeting scheduled for today between Choe Son-Hui and Minister Lavrov,” said Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for Foreign Affairs, to the local press.
Choe, who already visited this country in January, will participate Wednesday in St. Petersburg, in the first women’s forum of the BRICS group, led by Russia and China.
The Kremlin said Russian President Vladimir Putin does not plan to meet the North Korean minister, something he did on his last visit to Moscow.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, political and military contacts between senior officials of both countries have increased.
Recently, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un met in Pyongyang with the secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu, with whom he discussed “strengthening cooperation to defend mutual security interests.”
Kim spoke of the “dynamic development” of bilateral relations in all fields since the summit held in June in Pyongyang with Putin, and said North Korea “will continue to expand cooperation” with Moscow in the future.
South Korean intelligence said Pyongyang has supplied Moscow with several million projectiles, as well as short-range ballistic missiles, which have already been used in Ukraine.
Kirilo Budanov, head of Ukrainian military intelligence, said a few days ago that North Korean military supplies, especially artillery ammunition, are a serious problem for Kiev. EFE
