Gaza, Feb 8 (EFE).- The death toll in the Gaza Strip since the war began in October 2023 has risen to nearly 48,200, after health authorities reported the recovery of 22 more bodies and four additional deaths from Israeli fire in the past over two days.
Health authorities have also added 572 people previously listed as “missing” to the official death toll after a special committee approved their reclassification.
On Monday, the Hamas-run government in Gaza included all missing persons in the health database under the category of deceased, pushing the overall death toll beyond 61,000.
However, the health ministry continues to maintain a separate registry, as some missing persons may be detained in Israel. The ministry must receive authorization from a special committee before officially reclassifying the missing as deceased.

More than 111,000 people have been injured in Gaza since the start of the conflict, including five in the past 48 hours.
Since the ceasefire began on Jan. 19, Israeli fire has killed more than 20 people in Gaza.
On Saturday, two young girls were killed and a child was injured in Gaza City when the wall of a house collapsed after being hit by Israeli shelling, according to Hamas authorities.
Their deaths occurred shortly before Hamas released three Israeli hostages in Deir al-Balah, in central Gaza, as part of the fifth exchange of captives for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails under the ceasefire agreement. EFE
