Griezmann’s record run of consecutive appearances for France set to end

Paris, Mar 18 (EFE).- Atletico de Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann was ruled out of France’s friendlies against Germany on Saturday, and against Chile three days later due to problems with his right ankle, the French football federation said on Monday.

With his absence in France’s last two games before Euro 2024, Griezmann will end his record of 84 consecutive appearances for France.

His departure was announced shortly after coach Didier Deschamps revealed that the player had suffered an injury during Sunday’s match against Barcelona when he played only in the second half.

The problems caused him to miss four games with his club before the player returned to the field on Wednesday for the Champions League round of 16 second-leg match against Inter Milan.

The player was not in Diego Simeone’s starting eleven to face Barça, but he took to the pitch after the break.

The Atletico Madrid player has played 127 international matches for France and scored 44 goals since breaking into the team in 2012.

He has not missed any international matches since a duel with England in June 2017.

France called up Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzy to replace Griezmann, the player’s first call to the national team since the last World Cup in Qatar. EFE
