New York City, US, Mar 18 (EFE).- Luis Suarez was named Major Soccer League’s player of the Matchday for the second time this season on Monday.
The Uruguayan striker, who was voted player of the Matchday 5, was instrumental to Inter Miami’s 3-1 victory at DC United on Saturday.
He entered the field in the 62nd minute and scored a double for the team in pink in the match that Lionel Messi missed due to injury.
With four goals, Suarez is currently the top scorer in MLS this season, jointly with Giorgos Giakoumakis of Atlanta United and Dejan Joveljic of LA Galaxy.
Suarez, who joined Miami from Brazilian club Gremio, also has three assists to his name so far this season.
The Uruguayan is the first player in Inter Miami’s brief history to score four or more goals in the first five games of a season.
The striker has six goals and five assists in seven games across all competitions in 2024, which also helped Miami qualify for the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals.
The former Barcelona marksman had already won the best player award for Matchday 3 of this MLS season.
Inter Miami and the Columbus Crew, the current MLS champions, are tied at the top of the East with 10 points, though Argentine Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino’s Miami has played one more game than Colombian Juan Camilo Hernandez’s side.
Inter Miami will face the New York Red Bulls at home on Saturday. EFE
